Why Choose Diggermate for Swimming Pool Excavation?

Diggermate provides swimming pool excavation with an operator for residential, commercial, trade and construction projects that suit the local compact fleet. Our operators generally use micro and mini excavators, mini loaders and skid steers weighing 3.5 tonnes or less. Machine sizes, attachments and availability vary by location.

The excavation is completed to the dimensions, set-out and levels supplied by your pool builder, engineer or approved project plan. Before quoting, the local operator checks access, working room, soil conditions, slope, underground services and the volume of material to be moved.

When compact equipment suits a pool dig

  • Backyard, courtyard and established-property projects with restricted access
  • Plunge pools, fibreglass pools and other defined excavations suited to the available equipment
  • Pool renovations or removal work with a clear excavation scope
  • Jobs that need spoil stockpiled, loaded or removed as agreed in the quote

Some large pool excavations, deep cuts, hard-rock sites or projects needing larger haulage and machinery may require a specialist with heavier equipment. Your local Diggermate will confirm whether the available fleet is suitable before the job is booked.

How swimming pool excavation usually works

  1. Share the plans and site details. Send the pool dimensions, set-out, access photos, gate measurements, ground conditions and target dates.
  2. Confirm services and approvals. Underground services, permits, engineering and the approved excavation requirements must be identified before digging starts.
  3. Match the equipment to the site. The local operator confirms access, machine size, attachments, spoil handling and the agreed scope.
  4. Excavate to the supplied set-out. The pool area is dug and shaped to the information provided, subject to actual ground conditions.
  5. Handle material as quoted. Soil can be stockpiled, loaded or removed depending on access, disposal requirements and local availability.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Swimming pool excavation is the digging and shaping of the pool hole to the required size and depth, so your pool build can move to the next stage. We handle the excavation work with tight access gear and an operator.

Pool digs leave little room for mistakes. You hire us because we:

  • Use the right machine for access and ground conditions

  • Dig faster than manual labour and reduce rework

  • Help you hit your build timing, especially when you’re managing the project yourself

We specialise in tight access work and can handle sites that are hard to reach, including typical suburban blocks. Machine size and approach vary by location and site constraints.

Our pool excavation typically includes:

  • Site access check and basic setup

  • Digging to the required shape and depth

  • Managing spoil (stockpile on-site or removal option, based on your plan)

  • Leaving the hole ready for the next step in your pool build

Our national guide pricing for wet hire services is $119 per hour. Our minimum charge is 3 hours plus 1 hour of travel for each job.

Pricing can vary by location, site conditions, and access.

For an accurate quote, please contact your local Diggermate, who can assess your site and confirm availability and rates.

Time depends on:

  • Pool size and depth

  • Access and machine size

  • Soil conditions

  • Spoil volume and your disposal plan
Share your pool type, dimensions, and site photos and we’ll give you a realistic estimate.

Yes. Wet hire means you hire the machine and we supply an operator to run it.

Most locations have wet hire + machines combo, so best to check with your local Diggermate.

Often, yes. Compact equipment is well suited to many side-access and established-property pool projects. Send the narrowest access measurement, site photos and pool details so the local operator can confirm safe access, working room and suitable machinery.

We plan spoil handling around your site and local options. Some customers keep spoil on-site, others need it removed. We’ll confirm the approach and what’s included in your quote before we start.

Our wet-hire operators are experienced in operating their equipment and follow the safety requirements that apply to the job and site. Project-specific licences, tickets, inductions or other qualifications can vary, so the local Diggermate will confirm any particular requirements before work begins.

We provide swimming pool excavation through our local Diggermate locations across Australia and New Zealand. Availability varies by area.
